The Center is located on its own 24-acre site within the Wildewood Professional and Technology Park in California MD. The building is about one-half mile west of Route 235, on Airport Road. The Center is centrally located, approximately six miles north of the Patuxent River Naval Base, 22 miles south of Prince Frederick, and 35 miles south of Waldorf.

Food Services
Lunch will not be provided. There are vending machine in the building and several restaurants near by.

DIRECTIONS TO THE SOUTHERN MD HIGHER ED CENTER

From Patuxent River Naval Air Base: North on Route 235 - 6 miles. Turn Left on Airport Road (at Outback Steak House). Proceed ½ mile on Airport Road. SMHEC is located on the left across from the SMC Airport Runway. SMHEC 44219 Airport Road California, MD 20619

From Solomons: Follow Route 4 across the Bridge into St. Mary’s County. Proceed approximately 4 miles to the intersection of Rt. 4 and Rt. 235. Turn Right (North) on Route 235 At the 2nd light, turn left onto Airport Road (at the Outback Steak House) and proceed ½ mile. Center is on the left.

From Waldorf: Take Route 5 to Route 235 (approximately 22 miles). Follow Route 235 approximately 13 miles to Wildewood Shopping Center (Airport Road). Turn right on Airport Road; Center is ½ mile up the hill on the left.

From the Washington Beltway (College Park): Take Beltway to Route 4 (Pennsylvania Ave) South. Follow approximately 50 miles to Solomons Island. Follow directions above from Solomons Island.

From Washington Beltway (Alexandria): Cross Wilson Bridge into Maryland. Follow Beltway to Route 5. Take Route 5 South to Waldorf. Turn at Route 5 and follow directions above from Waldorf.

From Baltimore: Route 97 to Route 301 South to Route 4 at Upper Marlboro. Take Route 4 South and follow directions above from Solomons Island.

ONCE YOU’VE ARRIVED

Park in any unmarked parking spot, proceed inside, look for the conference registration desk.

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division is the principal Navy resource, national focal point and international leader in surface and undersea vehicle science, ship systems and related maritime technology. The Carderock Division headquarters is located in West Bethesda, MD approximately 12 miles northwest of the Nation's Capital.

Please note the following restrictions and precautions
• Only pre-registered laptops are allowed on base (when you register on-line you must include laptop information if you plan to bring one)
• No cameras allowed
• No cell phones with cameras allowed
• Do not enter restricted areas
• Display visitor badge at all times
• Car pass must remain visible on the dashboard of your car
• Upon leaving you must stop at the front gate & return your badge & car pass (there is drop box, no need to go back into the security building)

Food Services
Lunch will not be provided. There is a cafeteria on-site that is open for breakfast and lunch. There are also vending machines located inside most buildings.

DIRECTIONS TO CARDEROCK

From Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD): Take the Dulles Access Road approximately 12 miles to the I-495 North exit towards Maryland. Take I-495 North to the Clara Barton Parkway (Exit 41). When the exit ramp splits, stay to the left. Proceed approximately 3/4 of a mile on the Clara Barton Parkway to the ramp for the main entrance of the Carderock Division Headquarters.

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA): Take the George Washington Parkway North approximately 12 miles to the I-495 North exit towards Maryland. Stay in the right lane after getting onto I-495 North. After crossing the American Legion Bridge, exit onto the Clara Barton Parkway (Exit 41). When the exit ramp splits, stay to the left. Proceed approximately 3/4 of a mile on the Clara Barton Parkway to the ramp for the main entrance of the Carderock Division Headquarters.

From Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI): Take I-195 West to the I-95 South exit. Take I-95 South to the I-495 West exit. Take I-495 West to the Clara Barton Parkway (Exit 41). Proceed approximately 3/4 of a mile on the Clara Barton Parkway to the ramp for the main entrance of the Carderock Division Headquarters.

ONCE YOU’VE ARRIVED

Upon arrival you will be stopped by a security guard at the front gate and directed to the security building. There you will park and enter the security office. Everyone will need to show ID (drivers license or passport). If you are driving you’ll need to show drivers license PLUS proof of insurance and vehicle registration for the vehicle you arrived in (all names must match, no exceptions). By registering online your name will be added to a list that will be at the security office. You MUST register on-line by Friday May 2nd in order to be on this security list. If you do not register on-line in time you will not have the proper security access. Remember, if you plan to bring a laptop, it must be pre-registered. Upon final approval of your entry, you will be given a visitor's badge and a car pass. Return to your car and proceed through the main gate to parking.

NOTE - If you have a NAVSEA badge and DoD stickers on your car, you will not need to stop in security and can proceed directly to parking.

The conference is held in the Melville Taylor Auditorium, in the Maritime Technology Information Center (MTIC), Building 40, which is the large white building on the left that is about a block from the main entrance gate. Parking for Building 40 is in the lot that will be on the left after you cross Forestal Road and in the lot on the right at the top of the hill. Park in any spot except those marked handicap or reserved.
